A road trip can be very pricey. From gas to lodging to food, things start adding up quickly. This is why budgeting is essential when planning an extended road trip. There are the essential expenses one has to plan for as well as the unexpected. However, with some planning and flexibility, you can greatly reduce expenses on your trip. Check out our blog on planning for this road trip to see some ways we are cutting the cost. One of the big things we are doing on our trip is finding free lodging in the form of sleeping in our car or camping at free campsites. Check out our blog on how Andy built a bed in the back of our Subaru.
We have been keeping track of our expenses throughout the road trip and wanted to share the data to show others how affordable a 2-month road trip can be. Our expenses are broken down into categories. As expected, gas is the largest expense. Please note that your trip expenses will differ depending on how you plan your trip and how creative you are with finding savings.
