2019 Summer Road Trip: Planning and Prep

Road trip planning, especially for a longer trip, takes some time and discipline. Planning a road trip has been an all year “to do” activity of ours, from keeping our finances in check to gathering food that is on sale and thinking about where we might want to go. This road trip started as a seemingly unattainable dream of ours. However, we kept talking about it over the last couple of years and the desire to …

An Interior and Exterior Experience in the Porkies

Many people have family traditions over the 4th of July.  Some people enjoy crowds of people at a fireworks show preceded by a day of grilling, beer drinking, a parade, and a bonfire surrounded by family/friends. While this is enjoyable and we love a good beer around a campfire with loved company, we started developing a little tradition of our own that takes us to what we love: an adventure outdoors. We spent 5 days …

Breathtaking Bean and Bear Lake Beauty

Fall in Minnesota is one of the most beautiful times to go hiking, but it is also quick to come and go. For this reason, it seems fall brings the most hiking traffic to the trails. Or perhaps this is just the case when you hike the beautiful Bean and Bear Lake section of the Superior Hiking Trail in Silver Bay, MN. It’s inspiring to get out there and see all of the people making …

Family Camping Fun

Camping is a gift that is often times passed down as a tradition from family members. We are both grateful to have been gifted the love of camping from each of our families. We were fortunate to spend a weekend in early August at Sibley State Park with Sarah’s family, including her 88-year-old grandparents. You may remember our blog post from 2 years ago where we did something similar at Schroder County Park. Two years later, …

Wedding Travel Unveiled New Beauty

Out of town weddings are a great excuse to check out new campsites and hiking trails in a city you’ve never been to. We recently spent a weekend in Wausau, WI to attend a friend’s wedding. The wedding was at the Rothschild Pavilion which sits right on the Wisconsin River – a beautiful and peaceful setting for a wedding ceremony. There was also a view of Rib Mountain, which was our destination hike for the …

State Park with Bison and Falls

We were in Mankato, MN at the beginning of May to celebrate the graduation of Andy’s nephew from Minnesota State University, Mankato.  After attending  the commencement ceremony and celebrating with the family, we wanted to find a nearby state park to hike.  We found a great park and if you are looking for an easy day trip to a state park from the Twin Cities, keep on reading!  About an hour and a half drive from …

Welcoming Spring… with a Blizzard!

April showers bring… snow plowers!  The “snowpocalypse” of April 2018 has left Minnesotans feeling one of two ways: Embrace the snow in April and get outside on an adventure. Complain with angry Facebook posts about the weather reports and saying they’ve had enough with this snow. Typically this type of Facebook post features a large, intoxicating beverage of choice with a snow covered yard in the background. We took option 1 and embraced the snow this …

December AZ Getaway

As much as we love winter adventures in Minnesota… a quick getaway is never looked down upon. For a winter getaway this season, we went to Arizona to spend time with family for the holidays, and in between the family celebrations, we were able to enjoy some trail time on the outskirts of Mesa in the Superstition Mountains. A challenging hike at the Superstition Mountains is the Siphon Draw Trailhead. We were prepared for a …

Recent Reflections

Here is a video of another gorgeous hike from our trip to Arizona. The look back down the canyon is humbling and a reminder that there is something greater than us out there. There is something so gratifying and peaceful that happens when you remove yourself from your everyday life and take a moment to take in your surroundings. If you don’t find yourself to be adventure seekers like ourselves, you can always take things …
