Appalachian Trail and Our Stay in Monson, Maine

Dirt in fingernails, sweat rolling down the face, legs shaking, feet blistered, dehydrated meals, dehydration in the body, and a goal in mind because giving up isn’t an option.  That’s what the Appalachian Trail experience is about for a lot of people. An estimated 3 million people visit the Appalachian Trail every year according to the Appalachian Trail Conservancy. Of those, over 4,000 people attempt to thru-hike the 2,200-mile trail but less than 25% actually …

Hiking Mt. Washington

Part of the Presidential Range in the White Mountains of New Hampshire and standing at 6,288 feet, Mt. Washington is the tallest peak in the Northeastern US. While it stands over 6,000 feet, the elevation we gained while hiking to the summit was about 4,300 feet since the trailhead stands at elevation. That is still plenty of elevation gain! Mt. Washington sees nearly 250,00 visitors each year so it’s only a benefit to tourism that …

Finger Lakes Trail and Free Camping in New York

After five long days of driving, a weekend of out of the car, some fresh air, and slowing down the pace was much needed! Traveling with a Reactive Dog

This is our first extensive cross country road trip with our dog Daisy.  We did take Daisy down to Georgia this past December for a week, but this summer road trip will be two months.  We are used to camping at secluded campsites with Daisy in Minnesota.
